Melissa & Zoran | A Serbian Wedding Filled with Joy, Tradition, and Love

Some weddings leave you with beautiful photographs.

Others leave you with a full heart.

Melissa and Zoran's wedding somehow managed to do both.

Their day began at the breathtaking Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, where the beauty of the architecture was matched only by the reverence inside. There is something deeply moving about a church wedding. The quiet anticipation before the ceremony, the centuries-old traditions, and the sacred promises being made create an atmosphere that feels different from anywhere else. I'm always honored to photograph ceremonies like these, and I was especially grateful for the kindness of the priest, who was incredibly welcoming and thoughtful in working alongside me throughout the service.

Then there was Melissa.

She was absolutely stunning.

Her gown was one of the most beautiful, and without question the heaviest, I have ever photographed!

Every detail of the dress was exquisite, and she wore the dress with such grace. The moment she walked toward Zoran, everything else seemed to disappear.

Zoran's reaction said everything.

The emotion on his face when he saw his bride is something you simply can't pose.

It was genuine, heartfelt, and one of those moments that reminds me exactly why I love documenting weddings.

One of my favorite memories from the day happened just outside the church, after the ceremony concluded.

As guests celebrated, both the Serbian flag and the American flag were proudly carried.

It was such a beautiful symbol of two families, two cultures, and two histories becoming one.

In a time when conversations around immigration can often become divisive or discouraging, witnessing this celebration felt especially meaningful. Love has always crossed borders, languages, traditions, and cultures. Watching both families celebrate together with so much pride, joy, and acceptance was genuinely moving, and I felt incredibly fortunate to witness it.

The celebration continued at Haverhill Country Club, and I can honestly say it was one of the most energetic, joyful receptions I've ever photographed.

The dance floor never stopped. (in fact, it started before it officially began!)

Classic wedding songs blended seamlessly with Serbian music, and every time the traditional songs began, the entire room seemed to come alive. There were circles of dancers weaving around the floor, tambourines keeping rhythm, napkins spinning high above everyone's heads, and an infectious energy that spread to every guest in the room.

At one point, while I was photographing everything unfolding in front of me, the coordinator, Hannah, looked over and simply said, "This looks so fun!"

I couldn't have agreed more.

It wasn't just fun.

It was wholehearted celebration.

The kind that makes you smile behind your camera because you know you're witnessing something incredibly special.

I wish every wedding embraced this same uninhibited joy. It was impossible not to be swept up in it.

I also have to take a moment to recognize Hannah, the wedding coordinator we worked with at Haverhill Country Club.

I have worked with many venue coordinators, and she was quite simply, extraordinary.

Some coordinators keep a wedding running on schedule.

Hannah did that and so much more.

She genuinely cared about Melissa and Zoran. She anticipated needs before anyone asked, supported every vendor around her, and consistently put the couple first in every decision she made. It's the exact philosophy I strive to bring to every wedding day: take care of the couple, help wherever you can, and support the team serving them.

Late in the reception, after hours of photographing nonstop in the summer heat, Hannah quietly walked over and handed me a cup of water.

I hadn't asked. But I was absolutely parched.

She had simply thought to do it.

That small gesture spoke volumes about the kind of person she is. I have worked with a LOT of wedding vendors, and they are not all the same.

Melissa and Zoran clearly adore her too. They even asked for a photograph with her before the evening ended, and I absolutely loved that. The people who work tirelessly behind the scenes deserve to be celebrated, too.

Hannah is an absolute gem among New England wedding professionals, and I sincerely hope our paths cross again soon.
